Once upon a time, the residents of Shadybrook Retirement Home had been doctors and lawyers, teachers and police officers, and librarians and custodians. They’d been grocers, furniture makers and toy importers. One of them played professional football for a time.

But, for the past six months, they have been art students, studying under the community’s best painters, sculptors and ceramicists. They have created wonderful drawings, paintings, statues and pottery, and they have found ways to express themselves which they hadn’t imagined when they were what they’d been.

Beginning October 1st and running for one week, their work will be available for viewing at the prestigious Wilkes Gallery in downtown Renfrew, and up for auction at shadybrookartauction.org.

Funds raised will go towards the purchase of a new 12 seat custom coach, to be used in transporting Shadybrook residents for day trips, shopping excursions and dinners out at 3:30 in the afternoon.
